TAPE: Study of Paths emerges from Xadalu Tupã Jekupé's research into what he defines as a contemporary Guarani Baroque. Through painting, the artist brings together historical documents, travellers' accounts, academic research, ancestral memories, and knowledge preserved within his community, proposing a living continuity with the missionary Baroque.
The exhibition examines the exchanges between Guarani peoples and the Society of Jesus in the context of the Jesuit reductions, understanding the missions not as a closed chapter of colonial history, but as a field of negotiation in which Guarani communities played an active role. Developed in collaboration with Unisinos University, the project expands the debate around Indigenous visualities and their contemporary reverberations. In Xadalu's work, the missionary Baroque reappears not as the ruin of a finished past, but as a living language shaped by Indigenous enunciation, political imagination, and the refusal of historical erasure.
